Adult Cardiology
Overview

Cardiology is defined as the clinical study and practice of treating the heart. The Sanger Clinic has been specializing in cardiovascular health for more than fifty years. Our cardiologists are active in patient care as well as clinical and basic research. They have years of experience in the evaluation, prevention, and treatment of cardiac disorders.

As part of a larger group of cardiovascular experts, Sanger cardiologists have access to colleagues who are highly skilled in subspecialty areas including cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology, heart failure and transplantation, electrophysiology and cardiac pacing, and genetic cardiac disorders.

Clinically, the division is extremely active. The catheterization laboratory performs approximately 10,000 catheterizations per year, including 2,000 angioplasties and stent procedures. The electrophysiology laboratory performs radio-frequency ablation for arrhythmias and provides implantation of automatic defibrillators and pacemaker implants, among other innovative procedures. And Sanger's heart failure/heart transplant program is one of the region's strongest.

Sanger's physicians and other health care professionals work closely with patients and their families to coordinate additional services, including arrangements for outpatient and home-based care when necessary.

Cardiology services at Sanger Clinic include preoperative non-invasive evaluation of heart disease patients, and treatment and assessment of:

  • Cardiac murmurs
  • Adult congenital heart disease
  • Valvular heart disease
